72 QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WORK TRAJECTORY

The best way of predicting the success of a candidate in the position that has to be filled is through the development of their last job(s). This is the technology used in my advisory. I truly believe that biggest strength of our service is to know our client’s business, being one with it, if necessary and at the same time, know the work history of each postulant.

This is the base of the majority of the interviews. The specialists in human resources agree on the way in which a postulant has faced a specific past situation is the best indication to verify how they will perform in a similar situation in the future. We will develop the concepts once again in Part II, where we talk about the interviews by competence.

This is the foundation of the questionnaire related to the behavior. As an interviewer, you should know and understand the requirements of the position to fill in order to make the pertinent questions to the postulant.

  3. How long will it take you to make concrete contributions to the new position?
  4. Why did you leave your last job? (Or: why would you like to leave your current job?)
  5. Which were the most important projects in which you have participated on your last job?
  6. Can you give me a percentage of the time you have worked alone, compared to the time you have worked with other people?
  7. What evaluations have your bosses done on you in the last three years?
  8. In what areas did you get compliments from your superiors?
  9. How many hours per week, in average, does your current job take you?
  10. (In case the candidate is employed) How do you feel about your current job?
  11. (In case the candidate is unemployed) How did you manager influence in your decision to quit your last job?
  12. How do you think your boss will react when you tell him the news?
  13. What particularly creative and renewing idea have you developed and implemented?
  14. Tell me about a project in which you have shown your abilities in the … area.
  15. Tell me about a team project that you are proud of and describe your specific contribution.
  16. Tell me about a particular decision you have made, what made it difficult? What have you learned? What has been the most difficult decision you have had to make and how did you manage it?
  17. Describe how your department is organized.
  18. What are the most difficult aspects of your current job and how do you face them?
  19. How do you organize and plan the most important projects?
  20. What are the basic factors that motivate your job? Do you like working for your current boss?
  21. Have you made the best work you can do?
  22. Mention three areas you like the most about your job.
