CONCEPT OF INTERVIEW

CONCEPT OF INTERVIEW

The interview is the tool by excellence on the personnel selection; is one of the factors that influence the most in the final decision about the acceptance of a candidate.

It is a dialogue that is sustained with a definite purpose and not for the mere satisfaction of talking. There is common correspondence among the interviewer and the interviewee and a big part of the reciprocal action among them consist in postures, gestures and other ways of communication. The word, mimics, expressions and reflections contribute to the exchange of concepts that are part of the interview.

During the interview, each of the participants have a role and should act according to it, establishing a norm of communication in an environment given by the time and the topic to discuss. (Alles Martha, Jobs: the selection process, Macchi Editions, Buenos Aires, 2001).

How to ask the questions

The way of posing a question can deeply affect the answers you receive. The way the questions are posed is very important. It is common than the interviewer will induce the interviewee according to the expectations he put on him/her or his pre-concept of him/her, either by references or by reading his/her antecedents. You have to neutral in order to get more exact results.

It is not convenient either to personalize in such a way that the interlocutor might consider himself/herself accused, judged or imputed of something. The interviewer should feel free to express himself/herself.

The success of an interview depends mainly on the way the questions are posed and on knowing how to listen. For that, it is important to:

  • Try to formulate the questions in a way that they can be easily understood.
  • Make one question at a time.
  • Not to make direct questions until you have the conviction that the interviewee is willing to provide the desired information.
  • Initially make questions that won’t induce to elude the answer or to adopt a negative attitude.
